Star Cafe Patisserie Glasgow ReviewAs an unrepentant sweet-tooth, I was delighted to discover that no longer would I have to venture on to Shawland’s main street to indulge my vice. The relatively new Star Coffee Patisserie on Victoria Road may not have the intimate, artisanal feel of some of the area’s more ‘boutique’ cafes, however it more than makes up for this minor issue with its impressive selection of French cakes, glistening pastries, muffins and pastel-coloured macarons, freshly made every day. This and the fact that you can enjoy a Lavazza cappuccino and a generously-sized slice of something delicious and still receive change from a five pound note is what makes Star Coffee Patisserie so appealing.

Their caramel apple pie is sweet and sticky and was served warm with cream, and although not normally a sponge fan, I was won over by the lightness of the unashamedly retro black forest gateaux. A generous wedge of chocolate fudge cake, also served warm with cream was met with enthusiastic praise from my friend and the often overlooked empire biscuit was just as it should be – buttery, crumbly and crowned with a ludicrously thick icing topping.

In addition, the café offers a tempting variety of Mövenpick ice creams, fruity milkshakes and paninis for those who would rather enjoy something savoury with their latte. Cakes can also be made to order for a variety of occasions.
