George Square Hogmanayday
2014 promises to be a huge year for Glasgow, bring it in in style at George Square with a traditional family celebration with the best in Scottish music, food and drink. Also enjoy free fun for all the family with kids’ activities including themed crafts and storytelling, highland dancing, ceilidh bands, and traditional Scottish food, drink and entertainment. An exact programme of events is yet to be released, but check back here for the updates as soon as we have them. 31st December. 12noon - 10pm.
Hogmanay Party Nights
As always, the bars and clubs of Glasgow will be in full swing on Hogmanay. Many establishments regress to a ticket-only policy on this one night of the year to keep crowds manageable, so be sure to decide soon where you want to go! We’ve previously covered Ashton Lane and Merchant Square’s festivities, but there are nights on throughout the city including at The Arches, O2 ABC, King Tut’s, Arta and The Ferry.
Glasgow On Ice
Running throughout the festive period, Glasgow on Ice started out with a few technical difficulties this year but now seems to be in full swing just in time for the upcoming Red Bull Crashed Ice event. The rink’s right in the centre of the square, surrounded by all manner of rides, stalls and other festivities. Skating costs £8 per adult, with concessions available.
Pantomimes
Glasgow’s panto schedule never disappoints, and this year is no different! On the line up this winter are Aladdin at The King’s, Dick McWhittington at The SECC, Peter Pan at The Hydro, Peter Pan and The Incredible Stinkerbell at The Tron, The Pure Amazing Wizard of Oz at Cottiers, and many more.
Independent Events
Besides the usual city council staples listed above, there are always tons of little shows, performances, gigs and events going on around this vibrant city. Head over to the official Glasgow Loves Christmas website for full listings.
