What’s On: Glasgow Loves Christmas 2013

Well it’s that time of year again! It still feels wrong posting about this kind of thing in November, but people want to know what’s coming up, and it’s coming up soon, so here it is, the Get Out Glasgow guide to the highlights of the city’s festive programme this year. Enjoy!

Christmas Lights Switch On 16th Nov

Glasgow Christmas What's On George SquareThe grand opening to the Christmas season as the George Square Christmas lights are switched on. This event is strictly by ticket only, which have already been distributed to the winners of the draw. Undoubtedly though, the firework display will be visible in most parts of the city centre.

The Style Mile Spectacular 17th Nov

Style Mile Spectacular GlasgowBilled as marking “the start of the Christmas shopping season”, attendees are invited to explore the city centre’s main shopping street and malls to find a range of festive fun and activities from 12noon to 4pm. This includes music, stalls, street performance and much more. Full details can be seen here.







Glasgow Christmas Market 16th Nov to 23rd Dec

Glasgow Merchant City Festival Continental MarketLocated in St Enoch Square, this year’s market will feature a total of 50 stalls selling artisan gifts, products and cuisine. A truly festive experience where you can go as much to do some shopping as to just grab a mulled wine and soak up the atmosphere. Open Monday to Wednesday 10am to 8pm, Thursday to Saturday 10am to 9pm, and Sunday 10am to 6pm.

Glasgow on Ice 23rd Nov to 5th Jan

Glasgow on Ice 2013Now a staple of Glasgow’s festive scene, George Square will once again be thrown into turmoil for weeks as this huge ice rink is constructed around Walter Scott. There’s sure to be a huge variety of stalls and attraction surrounding it, as well as the ever-impressive George Square christmas tree. Please note the ice rink is closed on the 25th and 26th of December, and the 1st of January.




Glasgow Loves Hogmanay 31st Dec

Glasgow Hogmanay What's On GuideBring in 2014 in style with free fun for all the family including themed crafts and storytelling, highland dancing, ceilidh bands, and traditional Scottish food, drink and entertainment. As is now the custom, this event ends well before midnight (10pm), leaving you to find somewhere by yourself to actually bring in the bells.
