Cairn String Quartet, the all-female, classically trained (at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music And Drama, no less) ensemble are back for a very special one-off hometown show on 21 February at Glasgow’s Platform.
We saw the quartet about 6 months ago at King Tut’s with a few special guests, and it was truly a fantastic evening. This time around they not only have more guests, but they’re really pulling out the big names in the contemporary Scottish music scene with everyone from Scottish Album of the Year winner RM Hubbert, to frontrunners of the local hip-hop scene Solareye (Stanley Odd) and Louie Boy (Hector Bizerk).
The show is a fundraiser for their upcoming trip to Austin, Texas to play South by Southwest, “the biggest annual music, film and interactive conference and festival”, where they’re confirmed to play with fellow Scots Young Fathers (who have just signed to Big Dada on the Ninja Tune label) and are hosting their very own showcase too.
Playing a whole host of their unique interpretations of much loved contemporary Scottish music, Cairn String Quartet will be joined onstage by a selection of special guest artists. One not to be missed, as they will be playing with Aidan Moffat, RM Hubbert, Emma Pollock, Miaoux Miaoux, The Twilight Sad, Call To Mind, Errors, Kid Canaveral, Solareye, Hector Bizerk, Gasp and Lou Hickey. If the previous show was anything to go by as well (where the aforementioned Young Fathers appeared out of nowhere), this may well turn out not to be the full list!
Tickets for the show are £10 and are available now from Tickets Scotland, Platform and Mono. The show coincides with the release of the quartet’s new Quartetquickies album and a small run of limited edition copies of the CD will be available on the night (hold mine!)
