Fans of Merchant Square’s weekly Craft & Design Fair can start getting their weekend shopping fix early as, from this Friday (1st November 2013), the popular event will be open for an extra day each week, following high demand from customers and crafters.
The event currently runs Saturday (11am - 6pm) and Sunday (12pm - 6pm), and will now be open every Friday, too, from 12pm to 6pm, showcasing the usual array of quirky goods, handmade in Glasgow and its surroundings.
Jennifer Morrison, operations manager of Merchant Square, said: “Our Craft & Design Fair has been going from strength to strength and we’re now at the stage where we can add on an extra day which is great news for both our customers and crafters.
“We’re delighted to support independent businesses in the city and it’s great to be able to give our crafters a platform to showcase their work in the heart of the city centre. We have a really high calibre of crafters and it’s a great place to find really quirky and unusual items that you won’t find anywhere else – ideal if you’re looking for gifts for a special occasion or a cheeky little treat for yourself.”
The fair showcases the work of some of the city’s very best crafters, including the likes of Nana Momo’s adorable kids’ clothing and Twa Burds Soaps’ beautiful handmade bath products, through to Kirsty Fraser’s contemporary jewellery and funky bags and accessories from Romster.
Those with a sweet tooth will love Sweet & Cheerful Cakes while art and photography lovers can check out the work of Stuart Brown and Gordon Nicol. Scottish poet Tam Craven is also a regular, with his first book of Scottish Poems “Talcum Pooder O’er M’ Shooder”.
Located in the heart of Glasgow’s Merchant City area, Merchant Square is a hub of stylish bars and restaurants all under one roof. After spending the afternoon browsing the stalls at the Craft & Design Fair, shoppers can enjoy a bite to eat and a drink in the likes of Boudoir Wine Bar, Metropolitan, Arisaig, Fanelli’s, Beer Café, Chophouse Brasserie, Mercado and Bar Square.
