Is it summer yet? Is it time to sneak away from work early to bask in a beer garden? Is it time to pointlessly and hopefully lather on sunscreen each morning? Is it time to paint the town - and yourself - an unholy shade of burnt red?
No?
Ach, get yourself to the 13th Note on Friday and you can pretend it is with Tuff Love. Hell, you can pretend it’s the summer of love with these guys: all sun-drenched, lazy guitar melodies and vocals which could be sung from a deck chair.
If you’re not a blissful little hippy, how about God is an Astronaut at the ABC on Tuesday? With them you can fend off the inevitable shift of seasons and celebrate in winter a little longer. The post-rock group from Ireland will be touring their new record ‘Origins’. They’ve recently expanded to a five-piece and will no doubt be showcasing their consistently dreamy, always emotional and sometimes aggressive sound.
Fan of springtime though, are you? Hard to please, eh? Well, if you squee joyfully when a newborn lamb crosses your path and don’t find ‘twee’ a pejorative term then the Glad Café’s probably got you sorted on Sunday. The Forgotten Works will be playing along with Voicebeat Choir and Colonel Mustard and the Dijon 5. Although the real attraction is the additional entertainment. The afternoon begins with sea-shanties (aye, sea shanties. Maybe they’ll be sung around Queen’s Park duck pond?) and preliminary rounds of tiddlywinks: a competition to be decided once and for all after the musical entertainment. It’s a competition which is sure to be popular, fierce and oversubscribed. So, if it’s your bag, get there for half six.
Well there you are, a seasonal feast across the toon this week. Unless you’re a fan of Autumn. Then you can just get tae.
