Glasgow Weather Forecast
Glasgow generally has a very mild climate when compared to the rest of Scotland due, in part, to the effects of the Clyde valley. The bad news is it rains very frequently with some of the highest rainfall levels in the UK. Rainfall is at its highest during the Winter (rarely turning to snow in the heart of the city) but Summer showers are by no means a rarity so make sure you always pack an umbrella. Average temperatures tend to be low-to-mid 20s (around 73F) in the height of Summer, and around zero (30F) in the height of Winter.
Glasgow in Summer
Glasgow summer runs from early June to late August and is generally very mild to warm, with the average high sitting at around 20C (70F). There is an average of 11 rainy days per month (mostly in the form of showers, sometimes heavy), so it’s always wise to carry an umbrella. Glasgow generally receives 2 to 4 weeks of hot sunshine spread throughout the summer months, during which times the temperature can approach 30C (86F). The summer is a good time to get out and about and see the city’s sights in all their glory but, as Glasgow has such a fantastic bar culture, it would be a shame not to at least spend a little time in some of the city’s amazing beer gardens.
Glasgow in Spring/Autumn
In the Spring and Autumn in Glasgow the temperatures are generally mild, with the average high sitting at around 12C (54F). Rain typically is more frequent in spring and autumn than summer, with around 15 days of rain per month. Late Spring and Early Autumn (April/October) are perfectly nice times to visit the city, as the temperatures are still comfortable. As the temperatures are lower, you may be less inclined to wander about all day and may consider visiting some of the city’s art galleries and museums. Since beer gardens are more or less out of the question, why not check out some of the city’s best bars and restaurants.
Glasgow in Winter
Winters in Glasgow are pretty miserable times, with very little in the way of sunlight, and rain (often heavy) most days. Temperatures are chilly, often reaching zero and negative temperatures overnight, however snow very rarely falls in the city of Glasgow itself. Some of the surrounding towns and areas do receive considerable amounts of snow, however. The average high temperature during winter is 7C (47F) and it can rain (more or less persistently) for weeks at a time. Fortunately, despite the terrible weather, there’s still plenty to do around the city (you may just want to remain indoors) with a wealth of Christmas and New Year events. This is definitely the time to head to one of Glasgow’s many cosy, cold weather hangouts.
