My Hogmanay Highlights

Christmas is less than two weeks away. Scary or what? But even scarier, is that that means New Year’s Eve is getting close. So if you haven’t planned what you’re doing yet, you need to get on it. Stat. Now I know that how people like to spend their Hogmanay differs vastly, some want to go all out, splashing the cash on a blowout bash, others like to take it handy, playing it down somewhere a little more chilled out. And for some, it’s an excuse to do something a little bit different to their normal night out. Whatever your Hogmanay style, Glasgow has the party for you, the only problem is, it’s so freakin’ hard to choose. But seeing as we’re party pros at DesignMyNight, I’ve taken some of the hard work out of it and put together my pick of five of the best bashes in town. Let me know what you think!

Bar Gumbo

Bar Gumbo Glasgow HogmanayBar Gumbo are throwing one of the more unique Hogmanay celebrations in Glasgow, with their all singing, all dancing, cabaret review. Set to be one smashing soiree, there will be welcome cocktails, midnight bubbly, sublime burlesque, mystifying magic, cracking tunes, and incredible eats. Roll up to this circus spectacular in the West End, and you’re guaranteed a night to remember.

Mansion House

Mansion House Glasgow HogmanayRemember Pat Sharp? Yes the mullet-haired, Funhouse host, who also happened to turn up on I’m a Celebrity a couple of years back. Well, if you fancy a blast from the past for Hogmanay, he’s back (minus the twins this time, unforch) and he’ll be blasting out the cheesy tunes and party anthems at Mansion House in Merchant City on New Year’s Eve. This place is massive too, so it’s a versatile venue for a mixed group of pals.

The Grosvenor

The Grosvenor Glasgow HogmanaySo Get Out Glasgow already have the Ashton Lane Street Party covered, but if you’re heading there to party this Hogmanay, and you’re deciding where on the lane to perch your posse, The Grosvenor have some cracking packages to make it one very special night indeed. Their Hogmanay Snugs offer you and your pals the chance to create an intimate party vibe, in the heart of the action. These include guestlist entry, drinks for the night, buffet eats and your own private seating - perfect for those looking to start 2014 on the A-list.

The Flying Duck

Flying Duck Glasgow Hogmanay PartyParty with Punk, Blur, Oasis, and the rest this Hogmanay, as the Common People roll into the Flying Duck for one heck of a smashing session. They’ll tear up the floor with 90s party anthems, and bring it back together again with old school fun, games and giveaways. If you’re an indie darling who’s looking for something a little edgier, prop up The Kitchen Bar, as the sparkling Yes! DJs counter the cheese, with their brand of cool kid alt. A mixed bag of a bash, that’s guaranteed to get you partying like it’s 1999.

Saramago

Saramago Glasgow Hogmanay PartySaramago is a chic place to ring in the new year, especially if you’re after someplace fun, and central, without going elbows at dawn with drunk revellers and amped up ravers. Set to be a lively yet laid back night in the CCA, they’ll have drinks, dancing and DJs – see in midnight under fairy lights and spot fireworks on the terrace… Sounds like a dreamy Hogmanay to me.

So there you have it, a VERY whittled down version of what’s on offer this December 31st. If none of these float your fancy, we’ve got heaps more, and we’re adding to our list every day. (Not every bar is as organised as you and me with their plans, eh?) So keep your eyes peeled on our definitive guide to all the Hogmanay hijinks in Glasgow. Until then, let’s get practising our Auld Lang Syne… “Should Old Acquaintance be forgot…”
