Hurray for Friday! Are you feeling hyped-up and ready for the weekend, or are you shattered from a tough week and needing a little encouragement to venture further than your bed over the next few days? Either way, I’m here for you, with my DesignMyNight pick of the parties. This weekend is a big ‘un in Glasgow, filled with lots of beers, lots of bashes and lots of big names. If a-list star power, serious boat banter or some killer crafts aren’t enough to coax you out from under the duvet, I don’t know what is.
Friday Night
Waverley Boat Party @ On The Clyde (After-Party @ SWG3)
We thought the boat party ship had sailed with the summertime, but those sailor ravers at Optimo couldn’t resist throwing another one. Teaming up with Melting Pot (who run a fun funky monthly night in The Admiral) the DJs are taking the P.S. Waverley out for a spin this Friday night. The last sea-worthy paddle boat in the world, will (hopefully!) make it to Gourock Lighthouse and back, while pumping out the tunes. Then it’s back to SWG3 for one monster two-room warehouse after-party, with Mungo’s Hi-Fi manning the decks ‘til the wee ones. Set to be an electric disco you won’t forget, this bevy of DJs know how to throw a belter.
Saturday Night
MOBO Parties @ Cirque & Sugar Cube
It’s MOBO weekend in Glasgow, so expect some serious star gazing in some of Glasgow’s most exclusive nightclubs. The likes of Tinie Tempah, Iggy Azelea, Craig David (remember him?) and Wiley will be taking to the stage in the Hydro, and we reckon there’s going to be some serious after-party antics post show. The VIP lounges at Sugar Cube and Cirque are stocked up with champers and ready to go, as they host their MOBO bashes. Award show host Trevor Nelson will be DJing in Cirque along with CJ Beatz and DJ Charlsey, while DJ Colin Francis is leading a showcase in Sugar Cube. Ever wanted to bag a pop star? This is your big chance!
Sunday Night
CollabFest @ BrewDog
This weekend is going to be a crafty corker at BrewDog Glasgow. All 12 BrewDog bars around the UK have partnered up with local breweries, to create special joint brews, and this Saturday and Sunday, those brews will be on tap across the nation. The Kelvingrove bar teamed up with Fyne Ales, to make a rather spicy concoction, a black IPA with chipotle and ancho chili peppers. You can sample 48 Miles Later, and other beers like Jephers the Big Red Dog, from Leeds or Edinburgh’s Marmalade on Toast. With a Q&A with Fyne Ales, kitchen specials, and of course, those 12 new beers to try, forget just a Sunday session, you might need to camp yourself here all weekend.
So I’ll think you’ll agree, that bed is awesome, but Glasgow’s bars and clubs have got the goods to entice you out, whether it’s for hip hop stars, or just super-star hops. And just in case you’re one of those organised party peeps, (like me!) check our ahead-of-time picks for Halloween too, so you can get crafting your costume early.
Have a great weekend Glasgow, here’s to a smasher.
