What's On in Glasgow This Weekend - Get Out Glasgow!

Design Your Weekend! 11th November 2013

Happy weekend party people. So it’s officially Autumn, heck, it’s officially Winter. But even though the coats and jumpers went on this week, doesn’t mean the glo sticks and disco boots have to come off. My DesignMyNight picks this week all happen to revolve around the dancefloor, so instead of moaning about the cold, why don’t we do something about it, and get hot and bothered busting some moves instead?

Friday Night

Get Loose w/ The Vaccines DJ Set @ Bamboo

Okay, so I’m almost afraid to say it, but I *think* this is officially the last fresher’s party in Glasgow. As lecturers breathe a sigh of relief, first years get one last hurrah (who are we kiddin’? Uni is just one massive hurrah!) as cool indie rockers, The Vaccines come to town and take over the decks at Bamboo’s Friday student night, Get Loose. The band are known for their fondness of barmy antics and big tunes, and the West Regent Street club is known for its fondness of cheap drinks and wild nights. Expect this to be no less, than a rager.

Saturday Night

Pretty Ugly Club @ The Admiral

Pretty Ugly Club at The Admiral GlasgowA treasure of a Glasgow club night, the Pretty Ugly dames are back in The Admiral this weekend with their usual party mix of pop, indie and electro finds. The monthly club night is celebrating the change of seasons with their theme Fall Back this month, as a nod to pop songs of yore and the turning of the clocks – don’t worry, they’re two weeks early on that one! Expect a heady mix of fun tunes, from Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Chvches, to Pixies and The Strokes to Britney and eh, Cher. When I said a mixed bag of music, I meant mega mixed.

Sunday Night

Derrick Does Glasgay @ Sub Club

The 20th Glasgay Festival (link: http://designmynight.com/glasgow/news/events/glasgay-festival) is finally upon us, a month long celebration of LGBT arts and culture in Glasgow. Amid all the great theatre, film and visual art is the addition of Chicago house legend, Derrick Carter who will tear it up in Sub Club as part of the 20th anniversary festivities. Carter was one of the biggest names in house music throughout the 90s, and knows how to craft one thumping chooon. Ahead of the release of his new House Masters album in November, this is going to be a hot ‘un.

So there you have it, three full nights of disco-dancing, tub-thumping fun to cure what ails you. Whether you’re a house hound, a frolicking fresher or just a jitterbug for a toe-tapping tune, there is a DJ, there is a club night, and there is a dancefloor out there in Glasgow just for you. And whatever you get up to over the next few days, have a boogie-ful weekend. (Too far? Sorry!)
