Cost-effective Glasgow nightlife options this Christmas

Glasgow witnessed a hugely successful Christmas lights switching-on ceremony in George Square recently, and it opened the floodgates to another season of festive fun as hordes of people flock to this party-centric city to enjoy the legendary nightlife.

But whilst fancy bars like Blythswood Square and the city’s extravagant casinos may offer some exclusive attractions, for those of us who wish to save some pennies for Christmas presents, there are plenty of other exciting options.

Whilst the big musical names might flock to the famous venues like The Barrowlands, those who are in the mood for enjoying the latest cutting edge sounds without breaking the bank should check out famous indie music venues like Nice’N’Sleazy on Sauchiehall Street - particularly as they have a pretty impressive cocktail selection!

Although a stroll down Sauchiehall Street can reveal plenty of big name bars, for those who are looking for something a little different, then there are many cool cost-effective drinking options. Renowned pubs like McChuills on High Street might not be massively glamorous, but they offer plenty of craft beers at prices that will leave plenty of room for Christmas cheer.

Many tourists will also head to the city’s casinos for a particularly extravagant night out. Unfortunately Glasgow’s slot machines are notoriously hard to beat, but with Casino Euro offering great odds on their slots and table games, it’ll mean that you will have a little extra to spend at Glasgow’s famous Christmas market.

The Christmas Market on St Enoch Square runs until 29 December and provides plenty of cheap crafted gifts and tasty snacks to keep you going through the cold Glaswegian night - be sure to check out the mulled wine at the famous Gluhwein House!

If you’ve got plenty of energy left over after all of the shopping, then be sure to head to the Winter Lodge at Candleriggs Square where the wonderful ice rink makes a welcome reappearance. Although the prospect of skating around Glasgow city centre at 9pm might seem a little odd, it’s the perfect way to work up a thirst for one more Christmas cocktail.

Glasgow’s got plenty of expensive cocktail bars, but our pick for cost-effective cocktails has to be Blue Dog on West George Street. This relaxed jazz bar has all of the classic cocktails you could dream of at reasonable prizes, and they are the perfect way to celebrate that casino win and enjoy another amazing night in Glasgow!
