The lights are going up, the temperatures are coming down, it may be two weeks to St.Andrew’s Day, but there’s no denying, Christmas is truly upon us. Now, if you’re one of those organised sorts, or if you have at least one organised sort in your office, you’ll have had your Christmas party booked since July. But for the rest of you still nursing your hangover from last year’s mistletoe mishap, there’s still time to put together some rather special festive frolicking. There are lots of bars in Glasgow that offer more than just lukewarm sprouts and cheesy tunes come yuletide, and to prove it, here’s my DesignMyNight pick of Christmas party venues in Glasgow, that offer something a little cool, a little quirky or a little different.
Hummingbird
Hummingbird is probably one of the most versatile party venues in Glasgow. If you’ve never ventured upstairs in this Bath Street bar (you should, it’s awesome) they’ve got a swish penthouse with a pool table and private bar, a rather slick, Posh Room, the sparkle-tastic Glitter Room, the cool record-clad, Studio Room and the very stylish Mezzanine. Most private spaces come with (my personal fave!) karaoke and dress up, and Hummingbird also offer some tasty festive feasting and potent cocktail making too - a cool yuletide all-rounder for sure.
Hillhead BookClub
Hillhead Bookclub are having a turkey-free Christmas this year, which means you won’t need to get sick of the big bird before the big day. The menu at this stunning West Ender is rather novel, with quips throughout, and if that’s not enough to ease the awkwardness of the work Christmas party, a gramophone brimming with some potent cocktails will probably do the job. And for afters, there’s no need to do a chicken dance with Brian from accounting (unless you want to, of course), there’s plenty of other goodies to keep you entertained, from ping pong to retro computer games.
Mansion House
Mansion House is a sprawling party palace, that’s a glam cocktail bar, retro disco, tiki bar, comedy club, bistro and karaoke joint all rolled into one. Like I said, sprawling. Mansion House offer a whole heap of quirky party packages, There’s a groovy buffet with retro fondue and Michael Jackson gloves, a geek chic supper with glasses, or a Kanaloa package with tiki cocktails and flower lei; and that’s only for starters. With additional comedy or karaoke packages too, you’ve got the makings of a work Christmas party no one will forget – for the right reasons!
The Arches
The Arches is a pretty freakin’ cool place to have your Christmas party in Glasgow. Not only is it one of the most unique venues in the city, but it does some rather marvellous eats come Christmas time too. For smaller parties, you can dine in the ever cool, ever cosy café bar, or for bigger bashes why not throw together a big glitzy banquet, in one, (or two, or three) of the vaulted tunnels. This place might be more known for its banging clubs and innovative theatre, but these guys are also adept party planners too. A truly unique space for whatever kind of festive knees-up you fancy throwing.
Lucky 7 Canteen & Flat 0/1
Lucky 7 Canteen is one of our favourite joints for casual eats in Glasgow, but did you know they’ve a private room out back if you fancy something a little more (shabby) chic. Decked out with tinsel and crackers, it’s a rather special intimate space for a festive gathering with friends or colleagues. And if you’re after something a little larger, and a little more raucous, Lucky 7’s sister bar, Flat 0/1 next door will host your house party (only this time, you don’t have to clean up the next day, score!) with finger buffet eats, fun time tunes and of course those granny’s living room vibes. A quirky, laid back, alternative twist on your average Chrimbo party destination.
And if you still haven’t decided on the perfect party for your nearest, your dearest, or your colleagues, fret not we’ve got plenty more Christmas inspiration over on the site. I’ll leave it another few weeks to wish you guys a Merry Christmas, but until then, um… MERRY WEEKEND.
